Unlike a conventional pool, which has walls that are above the water level, an infinity pool has one or more walls that meet at the exact water level. These are then sloped downwards from the pool, to create the waterfall illusion.
The water that overflows is caught in a basin or trough, hiding beneath the vanishing edge. It is then collected and pumped back into the main pool. However, the basin must be deep enough to collect the spillover water, so there is never a shortage of water in the main pool. Another important factor in creating the infinity illusion is the view from the vanishing edge. The basin or trough should not be visible, so as not to block the Infinity Edge View.
